The rugged mountains, without trees and higher plants, form the habitat of specific birds.
Here breed the five species of eagles; Spanish Imperial Eagle, Golden Eagle, Booted Eagle, Short-toed Eagle and Bonelli's Eagle. Also Griffon Vulture and Egyptian Vulture have their breeding grounds here. You will enjoy the observation of Rock Thrush, Blue Rock Thrush, Rock Bunting, Rock Creeper, Eagle Owl, Raven and Red-billed Chough.

Good places to observe:
Valle de Santa Lucía between Cabañas del Castillo and Roturas. Take the dirt road between these two places. Distance approx. 13 km.
• Beautiful coloured breeding rocks for vultures and raven, called El Estrecho de la Peña, East of Alía along the EX-102 to Puerta de San Vincente. Good view from parking places along this road.

On a lower altitude, where these mountains are covered by the original Mediterranean woods with Cistus, Holm Oak, Cork Oak and Pyrenean Oak you can find nests of Black Vulture, Black Stork, Tawny Owl and, of course, the Nuthatch.

Good place to observe:
• The 'Llano de la Fuente de la Nava' between Robledollano and Campillo de Deleitosa.
There are two ways to go there, both dirt roads, so if you go by car be sure that your car is fit for these type of roads, especially in winter. Or, better, enjoy the walk.
From the South, 2.5 kilometres West from Robledollano (EX-386), take the dirt road at the sign "Ruta de la Nava" Distance 6 km.
From the North, the road from Deleitosa to Campillo de Deleitosa (CC-19). At 4 km North-East from the crossing with the EX-386, just after the Eucalyptus wood, open the gate and follow the track, East, to the river (Garganta de los Batanes). Continue to follow the river until you can cross and follow the track. This route requires a 4WD at all times so probably best to park at the gate and walk. Distance 3 km.
• The Berzocana River. Along the road from Berzocana to Logrosán (CC-22 [5]) are dehesa like oak woods with the monumental tree 'The Oak of La Nava' (39° 18' 22.27"N 5° 24' 26.67"W). Here Black Stork, Black-shouldered Kite and European Roller can be seen.
The Guadarranque River Valley. The road to Navatrasierra that runs through this valley can be accessed from the EX-118 at 13 km. from Guadalupe. After 17 km take the road to the right in front of the Casa Rural Las Lucia. Or via the EX-102. At km 96 take the road to the North, just where the EX-102 crosses the river Guadarranque.
