Bird-watching in Villuercas Ibores Jara - Extremadura
The Sierras, rivers and reservoirs of the Las Villuercas - Valle del Guadarranque ZEPA and Los Ibores and the steppes and dehesas of La Jara have much to offer the bird-watcher. The area has a great variety of landscape and large parts are bird protection zones.
Villuercas-Ibores-Jara is surrounded by many other well-known hotspots for year round bird-watching. In the North the reservoir of Arrocampo, in the Northwest Monfraguë, in the South La Serena, Moheda Alta and La Siberia.
The mix of rugged mountains, forests, rivers, reservoirs and cultivated land offers an enormous biodiversity. This creates many different habitats in a relatively small area and ensures a birding experience that will not easily be forgotten.
On the Habitats pages you will find a list of birds you may expect to see there.
For those who enjoy the combination of bird-watching and walking in an unspoiled natural environment, this area, part of the Geopark Villuercas-Ibores-Jara, offers even more possibilities. The walking paths are numerous and all but a few are public trails. However, when you have to open a gate, please close it again after you have passed through. Thank you.
To take advantage of the early morning and evening observation hours a 2-3 night stay in one or several of the many rural hotels or casa rurales (B&B) in the area would give the avid bird-watcher sufficient time to enjoy this birding experience.
